Pokemon is just too popular
eBay Japan published their cross-border e-commerce trends for the first quarter of 2023 (Period: January - Marchr 2023). They have disclosed the sales trends for listings sold by Japanese eBay sellers.
As expected again, Japanese Pokemon Cards continue to perform exceptionally well, with Pokemon Card Game-related items ranking first for the 10th consecutive term. VSTAR Universe has been the best-selling product again in the Trading Cards category in the first quarter of 2023. It was also the best selling set the previous quarter.
Collectible Card Games has remained in sixth place in the top ten highest transaction amounts (value) since the previous quarter.

In the world of trading cards, Pokemon cards continue to dominate sales, and thanks to the release of a new series of trading cards starting in the first quarter of 2023, they have maintained their strong sales performance. The implementation of an image scanning function in the eBay smartphone app has also led to an increase in sales of individual seller trading cards. Additionally, sales of products priced below $20, which are easier to sell, increased by about 30% compared to the same period last year. In August of this year, the "Pokemon World Championships 2023" will be held, and it is predicted that the attention on Pokemon will further increase, leading to further growth in the trading card market. Not only collectible trading card games like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, but also sports trading cards have been performing well. The top 3 products in terms of sales volume for the collectibles category Q1 2023 were revealed by the well-known e-commerce platform.
Pokemon fully took over again the Top 3 in the trading card category. VSTAR Universe takes 1st place, 2nd place is Scarlet ex / Violet ex and 3rd place is Triplet Beat.
Released on December 2, 2022, VSTAR Universe was the last set of the year (high class pack) and are usually very popular, these packs contain a V card or better guaranteed in each pack including Art Rare and Special Art Rare cards. As a result, Pokemon Card Game has become the best-selling product for the eleventh time in a row.
Pokemon Card Game products have maintained their undisputed top spot on the list of the best-selling products since Q3 2020, when Legendary Heartbeat was released. We anticipate the sets Clay Burst or Pokemon Card 151 set to take the number 1 spot in Q2 2023.
